Mountainboarding
What is mountainboarding?
Mountainboarding is also known as All-Terrain Boarding, Dirtboarding, Offroad Boarding, or Grass Boarding. It owes its history to snowboarding and skateboarding but with highly specialised boards being designed to be ridden over virtually any terrain it has grown into an action sport in its own right.
Is it easy to learn?
Yes, learning to mountainboard is very easy. Most people pick it up within their first hour of instruction from an ATBA-UK qualified instructor, and will quickly become confident at performing J-turns and linked-turns.
Where can I learn?
There are numerous Mountainboard Centres around the UK that can teach you the basics. Riding with regional clubs is also a great way to improve your skills.
What equipment do I need?
Before you buy a board it's a good idea to try out a few different boards, which you can do at some centres, and ask advice from other riders. We recommend you always wear appropriate protective equipment; helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards are the minimum you should wear, but many riders also wear body armour and padded shorts.
Where can I ride?
One of the great things about mountainboards is that they can be ridden almost anywhere. Mountainboard Centres have specifically designed tracks and jumps if you're into Boarder X or Freestyle, and there are hundreds of grass slopes, woodland trails, and forestry firetracks across the country if you´re into Freeriding or Downhill.
